About This Product

■LCD light shutter film

When a voltage of 100VAC is applied, the screen becomes transparent (ON) and when the voltage is removed, it becomes opaque (OFF). A highly conductive liquid crystal emulsifier is spread on plastic. Applications include turning on/off display screens and signs, adjusting Claire, etc., but there are many other possible uses for this material in the future, so why not give it a try? There are two types of products: standard type and high shielding type, depending on the strength of the screen's transparency when charged.

■Sheet functions

UMU FILM is a special film that instantly changes from an opaque (scattering) state to a transparent state by applying voltage. Liquid crystal is coated between the two films, and the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules changes due to the electric field, making it possible to instantly switch between transparent and opaque.

■Characteristics of the sheet

・By applying voltage, it instantly changes from an opaque (scattering) state to a transparent state. The speed from opaque to transparent is about 1/1,000 seconds, and from transparent to opaque is about 1/100 seconds. (Due to differences in penetration ability, there are two types: standard type and high shielding type) ・We have a lineup of products for two types of applied voltage: AC100V and AC24V (made to order). - By changing the voltage, the degree of transparency can be freely changed between transparent and opaque. ・Since it is film-like, the size and shape can be freely selected, and it can also be applied to curved surfaces. ・Size can be specified up to a maximum of approximately 900mm x 2,700mm, making it suitable for a variety of applications. *100mm x 100mm test samples are available.

■Seat structure and principle

In the absence of applied voltage, the liquid crystals, represented as rod-shaped molecules, line up along the inner walls of the capsule. In this state, light incident on the UMU FILM is refracted on the surface and inside of the capsule due to the difference in refractive index between the polymer and liquid crystal and the birefringence of the liquid crystal. As a result, light cannot travel straight and is scattered, making UMU FILM appear opaque. When a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules try to line up parallel to the direction in which the voltage is applied, so they align perpendicular to the electrodes. In this arrangement, if the liquid crystal has a refractive index that matches that of the polymer, it will be as if there were no capsule interface, and the light would travel straight without being scattered. As a result, the UMU FILM appears transparent.
