■SURFTENS softwareSURFTENS software is a Windows image processing software for measuring contact angles of liquids on solids. Contains a module to calculate surface free energy (SFE) from contact angles of up to five test liquids. SURFTENS software can be used in conjunction with OEG instruments or in existing measurement setups at your site.

■Technical backgroundImproving wettability in engineered materials through special surface treatments is becoming increasingly common in industry and research. Therefore, it is essential to objectively and accurately measure the surface free energy before and after the modification process for process characterization, adjustment of technical parameters, and production control. For this purpose, a robust and easy-to-use contact angle measuring instrument is required. SURFTENS universal was developed to meet the needs of industry and research institutions.

It is easy to operate and can be used by anyone with short training. Due to manual operation, we have achieved an attractive price. SURFTENS universal is used not only for standard process control but also for research and development. In conjunction with the software “SURFTENS”, you can measure the contact angle and surface free energy of solids. Excellent documentation capabilities aid in quality assurance and research collaboration.

■Accurate and fast measurement using image processingBasically, the measurement software “SURFTENS” allows fully automated measurement of the contact angle of stuck droplets using various methods of fitting the droplet shape. Droplets are automatically detected by image processing. The contrast of droplet images may be important for automatic detection. In these cases, the software offers additional options for droplet detection, such as manual setting of the baseline and fully manual measurement of the contact angle by setting measurement points on the monitor.

■Expansion of additional measurements and service capabilities・Real-time display of current contact angle with live video image
- Automatic measurement and diagram display of time-dependent contact angles (cycle time can be freely selected, minimum cycle time is 50ms)
・Measurement of advancing and receding contact angles in live video images
・Simultaneous measurement of left and right contact angles
・Measurement of curved surfaces with angular baselines
