About This Product

■Summary

MECO HH Type 2 is a fully customized air-purged mechanical shaft seal. Type 2 simple adjustment clamp that tightens the HH and disassembles the seal assembly. Unlike the standard stuffed box seal, the HH Type 2 can absorb machine shaft runout, making the HH Type 2 fully divisible for efficient installation and maintenance.

■Main features:

• Fully custom, completely split type • Hybrid surface pressure adjustment using complete shutoff on the process side using gas purge and mechanical clamping. • Tolerates shaft runout • Easy adjustment from outside • Handling highly abrasive powders such as metals and crystals, as well as slippery slurries containing oils and fats. For various dryers, mixers, etc.

■Mechanism

At the heart of the HH Type 2, two rotating polymer sealing surfaces (rotors) slide against a stationary stainless steel sealing surface (stator) to form a dynamic seal. The polymer rotor is rotationally secured frictionally to the machine shaft by an elastomeric drive ring. The HH Type 3 stainless steel adjustment clamp compresses the elastomeric ring against the shaft and stretches it axially against the rotating seal face to provide effective and adjustable seal face loading. The HH Type 2 sliding seal face is pneumatically loaded with a compressed gas (usually air or an inert gas), which also serves to remove product and debris from the rotating seal face. In addition, purge gas also helps isolate the process from the atmosphere.

■Application

HH Type 2 is often used in intermediate process temperature applications or applications using abrasive products. Ideal for applications where thermal expansion is rare or non-existent. HH Type 2 can be used with horizontal, inclined and vertical shafts. Some common mechanical and process material applications are shown to the right.
