About This Product

■Summary

MECO EP Type-2 models are used in many sealing applications with small to large shaft diameters and low to medium-high shaft speeds. This configuration is a double mechanical seal that uses an elastomer drive to rotate a bearing grade synthetic seal face against a fixed hardened stainless steel seal face. EP Type-2 uses full contact, soft-face mechanical shaft seal technology and is sized for OEM and existing in-house process equipment. The EP Type-2 model offers the superior performance, durability, and quality of workmanship that characterizes many of MECO's other highly regarded seals. MECO's first-class customer service is provided with every EP Type-2 seal sold.

■Applications for which EP type 2 is optimal

MECO EP Type 2 is ideal for single- or twin-screw extruders, paddle mixers, and other rotating equipment used in a variety of process industries including plastics, chemicals, metals, pharmaceuticals, food, and more. Typically used with a horizontal or inclined shaft, it is constructed so that it can be completely separated into two parts for installation and maintenance. The main application is used in resin extruders that place a large load on the shaft. Because the spring keeps the seal surface pressure constant for a long period of time, it is suitable for equipment that is difficult to maintain, and is suitable for vacuum equipment and other stable applications with small thermal expansion and pressure changes. For applications with frequent thermal cycling, pressure cycling or high-hazard chemicals, another EP Type 3 seal is the best choice.

■MECO EP type 2 seal operating principle

EP Type 2 seals are precision machined two-part seals that resemble a stuffing box and ground follower in appearance. It has an assembly of elastomer rubber and two special resin rotors inside the seal housing, and seals the inside of the process with a sliding surface that makes full contact and is placed at right angles to the shaft. The inboard housing that is attached to the equipment is equipped with a stainless steel stator that serves as a fixed-side seal, and the ground follower side is equipped with an atmospheric-side stator.
