About This Product

■Summary

MECO EA Type-2 models are suitable for many sealing applications with small to very large diameter shafts and low to moderate shaft speeds. EA Type-2 uses full contact, soft-face mechanical shaft seal technology and is sized for OEM and custom in-house process equipment. EA Type-2 models offer the superior performance, durability, and quality of workmanship that characterizes many of MECO's other highly regarded seals. MECO's first-class customer service is provided with every EA Type-2 seal sold.

■Applications for which EA type 2 is most suitable

MECO EA Type 2 seals are ideal for large solvent extractors, pressurized conveyors, holding tanks, and a variety of other rotating equipment. It can also be attached to some blenders, dryers, sigma mixers, etc. Common industries that use seals are plastics, vegetal oil processing, chemicals, carbon anodes, metal raw materials, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and food raw materials and manufacturing. EA Type 2 seal models are typically used with horizontal, inclined, or vertical shafts and are made to be completely separated into two parts for installation and maintenance. Basically, air or inert gas is purged into the seal chamber to keep the seal airtight. This seal is suitable for vacuum equipment and other stable applications with low thermal expansion and pressure changes. The seal condition can be adjusted from the outside without emptying the tank. For applications with frequent thermal cycling, pressure cycling or high-hazard chemicals, another EP Type 3 seal is the best choice.

■Working principle of EA type 2 seal

The EA Type 2 Seal model replaces standard gland packing using a stuffing box. The seal has two inboard stator housings and an outboard stator housing that serve as fixed side sealing surfaces. Between the stators is a rotating-side seal assembly consisting of two pairs of replaceable rotating rotors and drive elastomers. When the sealing surface is precisely pinched by the stator, the rotor and drive elastomer are compressed, thereby creating a tight seal against the shaft and forming a seal with the process side.
