About This Product

■Summary

The MECO AH Type-2 model is a split seal designed to fit into confined spaces from small to large diameters. This configuration is a soft-face, double mechanical seal using an elastomer drive that rotates a bearing-grade synthetic seal face against a fixed stainless steel seal face. AH Type 2 uses a barrier gas to load air pressure onto the sealing surface, isolating the process from the atmosphere. AH Type-2 is custom designed to fit your equipment with minimal or no modifications.

■Applications for which AH type 2 is optimal

If you are wondering whether a split or integrated face seal will fit into your existing space, please consider the MECO AH Type 2 Seal. This seal is compatible with horizontal, diagonal, and vertical axes, and is designed to completely isolate the process side from the atmosphere side using air purge. It can be used in various types of agitators, bucket elevators, resin extruders, and even both ends of screw conveyors. In addition to designing to USDA manufacturing guidelines, we can also design to meet ATEX guidelines for explosion protection. It can also be designed to be sandwiched between the gear reducer and the end of the screw conveyor, as shown in the figure below.

■Working principle of AH type 2 seal

The AH type 2 seal has two stator housings, one inside and one outside, which act as sliding surfaces on the fixed side. Between these two pairs of stators is a rotating rotor assembly, which consists of a drive elastomer sandwiched between the two rotors. When the stator is assembled, the drive elastomer is firmly gripped to the shaft by firmly sandwiching the rotor, and the rotor and drive elastomer rotate together with the shaft as a unit. At that time, a seal sliding surface is formed between the stator and the low-friction rotor. The seal chamber is basically filled with compressed air or gas, ensuring surface pressure on the seal sliding surface and airtight to prevent leakage from the process. There is a gasket between the two pairs of stator housings that acts as an adjustment shim, and it is possible to adjust the surface pressure by reducing the number of shims depending on the wear and tear of the rotor.
