About This Product

■Summary

The MECO OFS Type-2 model is suitable for many sealing applications in low to medium speed equipment at moderate temperatures. OFS Type-2 uses full-contact, soft-face mechanical shaft seal technology and is available in sizes to fit most food processing equipment.

■Applications for which OFS type 2 is optimal

MECO OFS Type 2 seals are ideal for blenders, mixers, cookers, conveyors and other rotating equipment used in food, pharmaceutical, chemical, plastic, metal and other raw material manufacturing. OFS Type 2 seal models are typically used with horizontal, tilted or top-entry shafts and are designed to be completely separated into two parts for installation and maintenance. It is often used for mixing dry powders containing sugar, spices, flavorings, food additives, plastics, metal powders, and chemicals. It is also used for wet mixing of slurries and liquids such as soups, sauces, cheeses, and doughs. OFS type 2 does not require air or gas purging or liquid quenching. This makes it ideal when those facilities are unavailable or cost prohibitive. It is also very effective for vacuum equipment. The design allows for extremely easy and quick disassembly and assembly, and it provides both sealing and maintainability not only for internal water cleaning, but also for situations that require frequent disassembly and cleaning.

■Operating principle of OFS type 2 seal

OFS Type 2 seals replace gland packings, lip seals and other types of seals. The fixed sealing face, made of robust hardened stainless steel, is bolted directly to the machine along with the housing. A low-friction rotating sealing surface is placed perpendicular to the shaft and in full contact with the stationary sealing surface. The shaft is sealed with an O-ring located inside the rotor that rotates with the shaft. A drive collar with a large drive pin and spring is fastened to the shaft at a predetermined distance from the rotor. It is designed so that when the bolt is tightened, the spring is pushed and the appropriate sealing surface pressure is automatically set.
