About This Product
StavaxESR is a high-grade stainless steel and plastic mold steel suitable for inserts and cores. It combines corrosion resistance and wear resistance with excellent polishability, machinability, and dimensional stability during heat treatment. Even when producing large lots, the cavity and core remain in the same condition as when production started, reducing mold maintenance. Compared to non-stainless steel mold materials, StavaxESR reduces production costs by reducing rust in the cooling circuit and maintaining constant cycle times. It is suitable for applications such as medical products, optical parts, and other high-grade transparent parts where rust formation during production is undesirable and where hygiene requirements are high.
General characteristics
■StavaxESR is a high-performance stainless tool steel with the following features.
・Excellent corrosion resistance
・Excellent polishability
・Excellent wear resistance
・Excellent machinability
・Excellent dimensional stability
The combination of these characteristics allows the mold to exhibit excellent performance. The advantages of superior corrosion resistance in plastic molds can be summarized as follows.
■Reduction of maintenance costs
Keeps the surface of the cavity beautiful forever. Rust prevention is easy even when storing molds or molding in humid environments.
■Reducing production costs
Compared to ordinary steel materials, the cooling circuit is less susceptible to corrosion, so the heat transfer characteristics, or cooling efficiency, remain constant for a long period of time from the time the mold is used, resulting in stable cycle times. These advantages, combined with StavaxESR's wear resistance, provide molding manufacturers with overall molding cost reductions such as lower mold maintenance costs and longer mold life.
StavaxESR is manufactured using electroslag melting (ESR). Therefore, there are very few inclusions in the material. StavaxESR is used in all types of plastic molds, but is especially suited for molds that require the following properties:
■Corrosion resistance
Molds for corrosive resins such as PVC and acetate. Molds that are expected to be used or stored in humid environments.
■Abrasion resistance
Molds for thermosetting resins and glass fiber-filled resins. Mold for large-lot production such as disposable containers.
■Specularity
Optical components such as camera and sunglass lenses. Medical supplies such as syringes and analytical containers
