■ Outline of PICS3D

PICS3D is a state -of -the -art 3D simulator for semiconductor laser diodes and optical devices. The basic use of this software is a three -dimensional simulation of edge -type and surface light laser. PICS3D has been expanded so that it can handle some models for some components attached to the light emission element. PICS3D is an advanced simulation software that extends Lastip physical models from 2D to 3D and developed.

■ Main functions of PICS3D

PICS3D can output computational data as Lastip for any XY -surface of the edge laser. In addition, PICS3D can output the following types of data. ・ Wave guide -grating coordination coefficient (primary, secondary grating) ・ Vertical carrier density distribution, optical gain and light intensity for the Lord / side vertical mode ・ Calculation of surface release mode distribution of secondary grating DFB laser ・ Output and frequency change to different vertical modes ・ Side mode ratio, line width, line width and output product, effective α, secondary Japanese distortion, surface release output (secondary grating DFB) ・ Mode output spectrum under different laser surface and any bias conditions ・ Mode output spectrum in different bias conditions and time ・ AM/FM microstroped modulation response under any bias conditions, FM/Rin noise spectra ・ 2nd tone Japanese distortion spectrum

■ PICS3D 3D physical model

・ The three -dimensional shape of the semiconductor laser in the vertical and horizontal direction has a significant effect on the operation as a light emitting element. The horizontal shape affects important mechanisms such as optical gain, nature and inducing rejuvenation, and the vertical shape contributes to the expansion rate of natural release, determining the property of radiation of the device. ・ The simulation software only vertically or horizontally has a restriction. ・ VCSEL, DFB, and DBR lasers have a vertical effect an important issue. ・ PICS3D can calculate the time development and spectrum distribution as well as the calculation of 3D space. The horizontal physical model is the same as the one used in Lastip, so here we will explain only the vertical handling. • The transition matrix method and the complex green function method are used for the solution of the vertical mode. ・ In the transitioning line, the vertical direction of the cavity is divided into several small areas and the waves are propagated for each area. The complex green function law accurately solves the light output of multiple -vertical mode by complicated analysis method. By combined mode theory and multi -layered optical theory, you can calculate laser diodes that contain diffraction grids such as DFB, DBR, and vcsel. ・ By these theoretical methods, you can calculate the response response in a wide range of areas for multi -mode laser diodes.

■ New technology for PICS3D 3D simulation

We have created new technologies to improve the calculation speed and efficiency of the 3D laser diode numerical simulation. In our simulation technology, 3D simulation is divided into 2D and 1DZ (Z direction) and processed. The 2D and the 1DZ module have a complementary relationship, and the 3D simulation has the same importance. ・ The 3D device is divided into a 2D slice in the Z direction. ・ The 1DZ module calculates the vertical ingredients and passes information to each 2D slice. ・ The 2D module is calculated on the XY plane in each 2D slice. Such processing is performed in each bias step.
