MPD will be releasing a battery holder for 18650 type lithium-ion batteries with a protection mechanism. This holder can hold one to four 3.7 volt batteries and is suitable for either consumer or commercial products. The new product being released this time (part number BK-18650-PC2) is the company's first commercially available product that can house a lithium-ion rechargeable battery with a built-in circuit protection mechanism.
The BK-18650-PC2 is a large pressure contact made of nickel-plated stainless steel with a 1.5 mm wide PC pintail. The design achieves low resistance and maintains close contact with the battery, preventing contact failure over a long period of time. The UL94V-0 certified plastic housing is lightweight yet strong enough to withstand long-term usage conditions commonly found in electronic equipment. The holder measures 77 x 21 mm (length x width) and is just under 22 mm thick. There are two mounting holes for hard mounting, but you can also attach them with adhesive tape (or double-sided tape).
The standard 18650 type lithium-ion battery has a built-in circuit protection mechanism to prevent malfunctions caused by it. 18650 type batteries are only supplied to battery pack manufacturers as they can overheat and cause combustion, explosion or fire hazards. 18650 type batteries with protection mechanisms are available in 2,400 to 3,000 mAh specifications and are available from several well-known manufacturers.
