The elastomer socket consists of a 0.1x0.1mm grid of gold-plated brass wires (40 micron diameter) embedded in a soft insulating sheet of silicone rubber at a 63 degree angle. The narrow-pitch device also has an even thinner 0.05x0.05mm grid of gold-plated brass wires (20 microns in diameter) embedded at the same 63-degree angle. The insulation resistance between the connections is 1,000MΩ at 500VDC. The contact resistance is less than 0.01Ω, and the distance between the board and IC device is extremely close at 0.75mm, so it can be used at high frequencies without picking up noise.
■ Connect BGA and board without soldering
Ironwood's patented elastomer socket is a series that is ideal for prototype evaluation using BGA devices, and is a cost-effective socket that exhibits the best frequency characteristics (~40GHz) without the need for device soldering. .
■ Space-saving and compatible with any board
It is the industry's smallest socket that significantly reduces frequency loss, can accommodate BGA devices from 0.3mm pitch to 1.27mm pitch, and requires only 2.5mm of space around the IC.
■Precautions for the board when using it
・Board thickness 1.6mm Min.
- In addition to the mounting range of the target BGA, there must be a socket mounting space of 2.5 mm around the area. (If there is no space, you can use an SMT/TH adapter.)
・BGA pad surface treatment Au plating, Ag plating
・It is preferable that the pad surface be equal to or higher than the height of the board, but it can be used even if it is lower than the board surface as long as it is 0.05 mm or less.
・Cleanse the BGA pad surface with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) etc. before installing the socket.
■About elastomer care
Since the SG/CG series elastomer sockets have small wires inserted into the solder balls for conduction, the solder ball residue will adhere to the seat surface with repeated use. To prevent poor contact and maintain performance, we recommend simple maintenance every 100 to 200 times and detailed care every 1,000 times.
