Compared to cylindrical worm gears, hourglass-shaped worm gears have a larger number of simultaneously meshing teeth and have meshing contact lines in the direction of the tooth depth of the wheel, making them very advantageous in terms of lubrication and tooth surface strength. When we talk about worm gears, we mean cylindrical worm gears, but if the wheels are plastic gears, cylindrical worm x helical gears are the majority of substitutes for cylindrical worm gears. However, since this gear is a point contact, it is not possible to increase the load capacity, but we believe that the drum-shaped worm x helical gear is the solution to this problem. Compared to a cylindrical worm and helical gear, an hourglass-shaped worm x helical gear has a larger number of simultaneously meshing teeth (2 to 3 times that of a cylindrical worm), and the meshing line contact in the tooth depth direction increases the load capacity. Therefore, you can simply change the cylindrical worm to an hourglass-shaped worm without changing the center distance of the cylindrical worm x helical gear.
