■What is worm gear?

A cylindrical ``worm'' with screw-like spiral teeth and a ``worm wheel'' which is a helical gear (helical gear) are meshed at right angles. Worms generally have one thread, but some have multiple threads. A worm gear is a gear with "staggered axes" where the two rotating axes do not intersect and are not parallel. The name worm comes from the word ``worm,'' which refers to a caterpillar. When power is applied to rotate the worm around its axis, the worm wheel is slowly fed and rotated, similar to tightening a screw. It can be rotated from the worm side, but if you try to rotate it from the worm wheel side, a self-locking phenomenon will occur and the gear mechanism will not work.It is a gear mechanism with a slightly unusual property.

■What is multi-strip worm gear?
