The dust- and coolant-proof linear encoder L18 has the function of converting the movement (displacement) position value and movement direction of important parts of the machine body into electrical signals. The encoder consists of a glass scale and a measuring head guided by ball bearings in a hollow housing. The encoder case has a lip-shaped seal in order to operate in harsh environments such as coolant and chips. It also follows and seals when the measuring head moves. By supplying clean air pressure into the housing, the dust and coolant resistance of the encoder is further improved. The optoelectronic read head generates a sine wave output or TTL square wave (RS422) output signal.
