A toothed washer, also known as a chrysanthemum washer, lock washer, or star washer, is a washer that has teeth on the outside or inside and a protrusion that is made by squeezing the teeth. Like other washers, it is inserted between the seating surface of a screw, bolt, or nut and the material to be fastened. These "teeth" act as springs and generate a repulsive force, and when the "teeth" bite into the joint surface, they prevent the screw from rattling or loosening, and function as a rotation stopper. It may also be used to secure conductors, such as at the attachment point of a ground terminal. There are types with inner and outer teeth on both the inner and outer sides, and ones with countersunk teeth that can be used as a countersunk head, and can be selected depending on the purpose and mating material.
