■Human bone marrow mononuclear cells Bone marrow cells are the major source of hematopoietic progenitor cells. Progenitor cells can be easily isolated from the mononuclear cell fraction. Bone marrow mononuclear cells are available from a large and diverse donor pool. Bone marrow mononuclear cells are prepared by centrifugation using density cell separation medium (Ficol l -PaqueR, GEHealthCare Bio-Sciences AB). Isolation of mononuclear cells removes red blood cells and granulocytes, resulting in a more stable cell product. Mononuclear cells can be used directly in hematopoietic assays or as starting material for CD34+ progenitor cell isolation.
