About This Product

Ideal for controlling laser light intensity and high-speed switching. You can choose from a wide range of lineups, including digital/analog, RF frequency, single/double, etc. Acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) are useful for controlling laser light intensity. Simple on/off modulation allows for fast switching, and modulation level adjustment allows for proportional intensity control. These modes are determined by the type of RF driver: digital, analog, or dual-purpose. The RF drive frequency is usually fixed and the RF amplitude is modulated as needed. Optical rise and fall times are determined by the laser beam diameter and crystal acoustic velocity within the AOM. High-speed modulation requires focusing the light onto the AOM. ■About acousto-optic products All Isomet AO products have a piezoelectric transducer attached to one side of the crystalline material. When an RF drive signal is applied to this transducer, an acoustic traveling wave is generated within the crystal. Due to the photoelastic effect, the acoustic column produces a periodic change in the refractive index, much like the slit effect of a diffraction grating. Practical AO products are designed such that a high percentage of the incident laser light is diffracted into the first-order diffraction order, and these devices operate within the Bragg region.
