When an object is placed in a fluid stream, a regular vortex train is generated alternately on the downstream side. This vortex train is called a Karman vortex (row) after the hydrodynamicist who solved it. The Karman vortex flowmeter is a flowmeter based on the Karman vortex measurement principle.
