The workpiece is kept horizontal by bringing the liner into close contact with the bottom of the workpiece. In the case of a conventional vise with a base, when you push the screw in the direction of arrow P, the slide moves in the direction of arrow U by the value of the gap S between the sliding surface of the jaw plate and the jaw plate, and then stops. However, the workpiece also moves in the direction of arrow Q, creating a gap C (=S) between the bottom surface and the liner, causing the bottom surface of the workpiece to tilt.
In the case of a vise with a magic cap, if you push the screw in the direction of arrow P in the same way, the slide will move in the direction of arrow U by the value of the gap S between the sliding surface of the jaw plate and the jaw plate and then stop. Jaw A is pushed by Jaw B and moves in the direction of arrow Q together with the workpiece. The bottom surface and liner are in close contact, allowing the bottom surface of the workpiece to be kept level.
