About This Product
Metal hood furnaces (HBOs) produce the lowest operating pressures achievable. The vacuum function provides the highest purity gas atmosphere. The materials used in construction are selected to have the lowest vapor pressure at the highest temperature. Heat treatment at maximum temperatures is possible without damaging the heating element or insulation material. The radiation shield for thermal insulation is made of the same material as the heating element, and no fibrous insulation is used.
There are two types of HBO furnaces: one with a molybdenum heating element and radiation shield, suitable for use up to 1,600°C, and one with a tungsten heating element and radiation shield, suitable for use up to 2,200°C. be. Nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen gases can be used as mixed or pure gases. Additional gas can be introduced upon request. Slight overpressures or controlled partial pressures can be obtained in the range 10 to 1,000 mbar. Partial pressure allows the gas flow rate in the furnace to be kept constant.
Due to the fully metal design, the final vacuum level inside HBO reaches the high vacuum region, better than 5x10-6mbar. Vacuum is supplied by different pump stations depending on the degree of vacuum required. Ultra-high vacuum options are also available upon request. The gas is controlled by various dosing and control devices. The temperature of each of the three heating zones is individually controlled to maintain maximum uniformity.

■Technical details
The HBO hood furnace is constructed entirely of metal materials and has a total of 9 radiation shields. It also features three heating zones to allow preheating of the incoming gas if required. The three heating zones consist of a mantle heater, top heater, and bottom heater. Mantle heaters are designed with an emphasis on mechanical stability.
An optional metal retort can be specified to protect the heating element and increase temperature uniformity during outgassing from the sample.
