■New benchmark for indexable drills CoroDrill
DS20 is a high-performance indexable drill that has been developed to improve its conventional features and further improve its performance. The new tip shape and layout design of the center and outer edges allow for smoother bite than before. The unique drill flute design increases body rigidity, making it possible for the first time in the indexable cutting edge area to perform overhang machining up to 7 x DC without a pilot hole.
■Double step technology
With indexable drills, large cutting forces are applied in the radial direction (Y-axis) at the hole entrance, resulting in a large amount of hole expansion. When machining long overhangs, the runout caused by this causes chatter. DS20 solves this problem and enables 7×DC processing.
■Unique flute design
For protrusions exceeding 4×DC, the rigidity (bending and torsion) of the body must be increased. The length of the spiral flute (twist) has a large effect on stiffness. DS20 uses spiral + straight flute from the viewpoint of rigidity.
■Flute cross-sectional shape
DS20 is designed to minimize deflection. The radial cutting force is supported by the flute cross section. The flute cross section is uniform and wide. The center of the cross section is aligned with the drill center. DS20 has a central flute with a trapezoidal cross-section and a flute on the outer periphery, which are optimized for each drill diameter from the viewpoint of rigidity and chip control.
■Chip design
Both the center cutting edge and the peripheral cutting edge can be used with 4 corners. The peripheral cutting edge is designed with a 5° negative rake angle, and the breaker provides low cutting forces. The rigid clamp improves the traditional problem of insert movement during machining. The peripheral cutting edge has a polished wiper cutting edge and has good machined surface roughness.
■Double coolant hole
Coolant holes on the center and outer edges are located on the top surface to improve chip evacuation.
