Low cycle fatigue (LCF) testing is a growing demand for materials testing, especially from the aerospace, automotive, and power industries. ISO 12016 and ASTM E606 specify standard test methods for strain-controlled fatigue tests used to simulate mechanical loads in the plastic region. This test is typically performed at very high temperatures to mimic conditions typical of gas turbine and jet engine turbine blades.
Although load string and heating technology are important parts of the LCF test system, Instron has two fundamentally different actuator technologies. Most fatigue testing systems are hydraulically powered and provide the high dynamic performance needed to reduce the time required for long, high cycle fatigue tests. For LCFs, testing is typically done at very low speeds, so precise strain control is more important than operating at high frequencies. Instron not only provides traditional hydraulic technology for LCFs, but also offers unique electric servo actuators that are ideal for solving the challenges faced by LCFs. Choosing Instron's electric servo technology reduces infrastructure requirements for additional test machines and minimizes running costs. Depending on the solution that best fits your needs, Instron offers lateral and axially stiff load frames and precision alignment fixtures to meet the demands of LCF testing.

The purpose-built LCF3 software allows you to easily perform complex tests and get the results you need every time. It incorporates automated calculations, real-time data views, and powerful post-processing.
