About This Product

O-rings are sized according to Jis B 2401 and are called P-20, etc. Murakami Dengyo also has over 30,000 products in special sizes. It is called an O-ring because its cross section resembles the letter O. Some products are X-shaped. It's called an X-ring. Murakami Dengyo sells approximately 30,000 types of O-rings. Used for sealing purposes. Since sealing is the goal, we must define what sealing is. Sealing is defined as sealing something tightly without any gaps (Yahoo Dictionary). Since there are no gaps, neither liquid nor gas can pass through. If the O-ring is in close contact (sealing) with the mating surface, there should be no leakage of water or gas, but this varies depending on factors such as expansion and contraction of the material, processing errors, pressure, etc. It's something you can't expect. Therefore, if it is a soft material, it can be expected to deform, so it will be possible to make a close contact and seal. Even if a soft material is used, the cross-sectional area will not change significantly, so it is important to create a place where it can escape if it is deformed. If water pressure is applied to the O-ring from the side (more than 70 kg/cm2) (some say it is more than 80 kg/cm2), it is necessary to use a backup ring to back up the O-ring. Backup rings are generally made of Teflon PTFE. We also have experience with nylon backup rings. An increase in temperature causes the O-ring to expand. Generally speaking, the O-ring expands more than its counterpart metal, so it is convenient for sealing. In an environment where the temperature drops, it will shrink due to heat. Sealing means that something bad happens. The coefficient of expansion of rubber tends to increase as the temperature rises. This means that the lower the temperature, the smaller it becomes. In other words, there is a greater possibility that gaps will form. The O-ring may suffer unexpected deformation due to not only the pressure of holding it down, but also the pressure of gas or liquid from the side. In such cases, we recommend using a backup ring. O-rings are made not only from rubber but also from Teflon.
