CERN
Overview
CERN, established in 1954 and headquartered in Meyrin, Geneva, Switzerland, is a European organization for nuclear research that explores the fundamental structure of the particles comprising all matter.
The company’s basic tools are particle accelerators and detectors. These tools were initially invented for research and now find widespread applications in various fields, from medical diagnostics and therapy to computer chip manufacturing. It created the World Wide Web to facilitate information sharing among scientists.
It also developed the Grid, a global computing network that processes the colossal volume of data generated by the LHC experiments.
