Celanese is an American manufacturer of chemicals and specialty materials. The company was originally founded in 1918 as the American Cellulose and Chemical Manufacturing Company before its rebrand in 1927. Based in Irving, Texas, the company produces natural polymers such as cellulose acetate and intermediate chemicals like acetyl chain, as well as food ingredients including sorbates and engineered materials comprising of Riteflex® thermoplastic polyester elastomers. These are utilized in the industrial processes of various sectors, including food and beverages, and energy production. Celanese has served several large corporations operating internationally, including the Coca-Cola Company, Shell Plc, and the L’Oreal cosmetics company.
